What To Expect During Your Eyelid Procedure

Eyelid surgery is done as an outpatient procedure and can also be done at the same time as a facelift, mid-facelift, cheek augmentation, or fat injection. Fine wrinkles will not be corrected by surgery alone and may need to be addressed by skin resurfacing after surgery, such as a chemical peel.

Dr. Madjidi personally performs the surgery and follows her patients during their recovery.

Consultation

Before your surgery, you will meet with Dr. Madjidi at our Houston, TX, office for your consultation. There, she will listen to your desired results and analyze your face. She will ensure surgery is the best option and that your concerns cannot be fixed with non-surgical options like BOTOX Cosmetic or fillers alone.

General Anesthesia

General anesthesia is given for this procedure to keep you asleep, comfortable, and pain-free throughout the entire appointment.

Incisions

Depending on which eyelid you are having done, your incision will either be placed in the natural crease of your top eyelid, or the lash line along your lower eyelid.

Removal

Dr. Madjidi will then remove excess fat, muscle, and eyelid skin to reduce puffiness and create a more alert appearance.

Sutures

Once the excess skin and fat are removed, Dr. Madjidi will suture the incisions closed. When not combined with any other procedure, blepharoplasty usually only takes between one and two hours.

Recovery

Since this is an outpatient surgery and you will be under general anesthesia, you will need someone to take you to and from your appointment.

Follow Dr. Madjidi's instructions to ensure a safe and quick recovery process. Many patients require about a week of recovery before returning to work.

Bruising and Swelling

Bruising and swelling of the eyelids and around the eyes is normal following surgery. This should subside within the first week. Makeup can be used to cover any residual bruising in the meantime.

Minor Irritation

Minor irritation, sensitivity, or dry eye are also normal during the recovery process. Prescription eye drops can usually help ease any irritation during healing.

Light Sensitivity

Temporary sensitivity to light or a slight change in vision can sometimes be experienced by blepharoplasty patients. These side effects can also be subsided with prescription eye drops and dark sunglasses.
