woman closing her eyes JUVÉDERM® is soft tissue filler. Available at our Houston, Texas office, it is used to smooth away moderate to severe facial wrinkles and restore fullness to the lips. It is made of non-animal based stabilized hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in all living cells of vertebrates. JUVÉDERM® is free of animal proteins.

If you would like to plump thin lips, enhance shallow contours, and improve the appearance of nasolabial folds, you may be a candidate for JUVÉDERM® injection. Your JUVÉDERM® Consultation

During consultation, Houston plastic surgeon Dr. Azita Madjidi will listen to your concerns and explain different forms of fillers that would work for you. It could be one of the commercially available fillers. Filler injection is performed in the office after full evaluation of the areas of your concern. The decision for choosing JUVÉDERM® will be based on the depth, location, and severity of the wrinkles.

Allergies are extremely rare to JUVÉDERM®because it is free of animal products and the body recognizes hyaluronic acid as not foreign. There is no need for allergy testing prior to treatment.

A topical anesthetic will be placed over the area that is to be injected. Additional injectable anesthetics may be required to minimize the discomfort. Ice and pressure will be applied for a few minutes in order to prevent and minimize bruising and swelling. The result is instantaneous and you can see the change in a mirror immediately. Your feed back is important during the treatment.

JUVÉDERM® may be combined with other fillers at the same time or at different times for better result if needed.

JUVÉDERM® can be used with BOTOX® Cosmetic for a greater effect, especially on deep wrinkles. BOTOX® Cosmetic will have to be injected at least a week before the filler to minimize the risk of spreading the filler away from the treated area. An example of a need for combined treatment is vertical, deep frown lines.

After the injection, swelling and mild redness should subside after two to five days. An evaluation at two weeks is recommended to see if there are areas that need further injection. Results with JUVÉDERM® last longer in areas with less movement, such as the upper portion of the laugh lines, than in areas with more mobility such as lips. Longevity also varies depending on each patient's metabolism. In general it is nine months to a year but there is no set time. It is different for each individual and each area treated. JUVÉDERM® injections can be repeated as many times as necessary.
