Achieve a Toned Contour in Your Lower Abdomen
If you have failed to achieve your goal in losing that little bulge between the navel and the pubic bone despite diet and exercise, you may be a candidate for a mini tummy tuck at our Houston office. Houston plastic surgeon Dr. Azita Madjidi will evaluate you to see if you are a good candidate for a mini tummy tuck based on the amount of fat and skin laxity that you have. The mini tummy tuck is ideal for the correction of minimal amounts of skin and fat excess in the isolated area between the navel and the pubic bone. Ideal candidates are not overweight. They are in fact in great shape as ideally, the only area that needs to be corrected is the lower abdomen. The muscles have good tone and the waistline is well defined. The bulge is mostly skin. The Mini Tummy Tuck Process
In a mini tummy tuck, the navel is not repositioned because the amount of skin that needs to be removed is less than in a tummy tuck. The abdominal muscles below the navel are tightened if needed. If the upper abdomen already has a bulge, one may consider doing a full tummy tuck for a better overall result.
The scar is shorter than a full tummy tuck. It is limited to the area right above the pubis and just slightly extended to the sides, just a bit longer than a C-section scar. If you have such a scar, it can be revised at the same time as the mini tummy tuck; but, if your old scar is vertically oriented, it will not be entirely removed with a mini tummy tuck.
Liposuction can be done at the same time as a mini tummy tuck in the areas that are not corrected by the mini tummy tuck, such as the waistline and the hips. If the bulge in the lower abdomen is mostly fat, then liposuction alone may be all you need. This is why it is important to come in for an initial evaluation before deciding on what procedure you want.
"In my experience, most patients who want a mini abdominoplasty are in fact good candidates for a full abdominoplasty. There are very few people who can have the result they anticipate with just a limited procedure."
Once the decision for just a limited abdominoplasty, or mini tummy tuck, is made, surgery is scheduled as an outpatient procedure, under general anesthesia or sedation. It takes about an hour. Drains are placed and removed based on their output, typically within a few days.
The recovery is much faster than a full tummy tuck. The scars will initially be firm and pink and should normally continue to flatten and fade for up to a year.
"I personally perform the surgery and follow my patients during their recovery."
Dr. Madjidi will show you different scar treatments to help the scars fade away faster.
The result is permanent; however, weight gain or pregnancy after a mini tummy tuck will diminish the outcome and a full abdominoplasty may become necessary to reverse decline.
